Saikai occupies the tip of a peninsula located in Nagasaki prefecture in western Japan. It takes just over an hour from Nagasaki city and approx.45 minutes from Sasebo city.
The area has the beautiful sea and mountains. Although it is called ‘Saikai City’, this is purely an administrative term and it actually is a very large rural area consisting of numerous small farming and fishing towns and villages with a total population of less than 30,000 people.
The access to Saikai by public transport is very limited. We can advise you about the best way to get here based on where you are traveling from and arrange a meeting point if necessary.
The Saikai Minpaku scheme finds accommodation for visitors wishing to see rural Japan, a truly off-the-beaten-track area.
Accommodations, Minpaku, will be found with local families who are either farmers, fishermen or others who can provide similar activities.
Please note that民泊（minpaku）is like a farm-stay/homestay. You are staying at a family home, not a hotel, which will give you a chance to experience “real” Japan.
Please remember to be respectful to the host and the culture.
The standard Minpaku stay includes 2 meals, dinner and breakfast, and some activities such as fishing, Japanese cooking or farming. The activities vary depending on the family with whom you stay. Please let us know what you would like to see and experience, so we can find a right family for you to stay.
You can do as much or as little as you like during the stay, but you will gain a unique insight into authentic Japanese daily life.
Some families may be able to accommodate longer stay or provide personalized activity-only packages such as sea-cruising, kayaking or a traditional tea ceremony.
*All the Minpaku families and activities are licensed and insured.
**Some activities may be charged extra so please ask for details on booking.
Day-trip activities (approx. 2hours)
Some of our Minpaku families also offer day-trip activities, such as day-camp, fishing on the boat, cruising and cooking. Some can offer traditional Japanese activities such as Ikebana (flower arrangement), tea ceremony or dressing up in Kimono.
